3D TO Playstation3 FREE!!

An anonymous reader writes with news that Sony is planning a firmware update for the PS3 to allow 3-D reproduction of Blu-ray movies and YouTube. The update is scheduled for September, and support for 3-D pictures will come later. Sony's Kaz Hirai spoke recently about how the PS3 was designed with this type of update in mind. "Given how quickly technology becomes now, we knew going in we had to pack plenty of power on the PS3. Four years ago, - when you look at the console of power and the retail price - a great number of people were critical of the fact that there was so much packed under the hood. Now we are particularly pleased with the introduction of things like the movement and play 3-D because we can tangibly demonstrate why we released the PS3 with the power he has, and why has so much meaning to test the future of a console. "Sony has also updated its PS3 Terms of Service to warn against viewing in 3-D too.

This is how things stand right now. Keep in mind that any subject can change over time, so be sure to keep up with the latest news.
